Why I Became a Trainer
In 2020, I woke up one morning and decided I’d had enough. I was a chronic insomniac. My gut wasn’t right. And anxiety held a death grip on me. Even with a decent job, a graduate degree from Yale, and plenty of life experience under my belt, I was insecure, often self-loathing, and frustrated by my lack of self-control and confidence.
I felt like the years I had spent studying philosophy hadn’t helped me at all. What was all this knowledge worth if I remained burdened by countless fears, ailments, and insecurities? But this personal inquiry is when everything started to change. Another foray into some of my favorite Ancient Greek philosophers caused me to take pause and reevaluate many of my past assumptions about what I thought I had learned. Philosophy was first and foremost about a way of life rooted in self-control, discipline, and physical fitness that led to flourishing. I began wondering how my own lack of self-control, my weakened body, and my disregard for hard, physical training had blinded me to the life-changing message at the heart of Ancient Greek philosophy. Namely, a life of spiritual and mental flourishing begins with physical fitness.
I committed myself to a new regimen of strength and cardio training, while beginning to control past indulgences, realizing that the more discipline I asserted over my life, the more I was able to live into the narrative of which I knew I was capable. As Aristotle says, we all possess a deep reservoir of potential waiting to be actualized. All it takes is replacing bad habits with good habits; habits that will lead to a reclamation of self-agency, confidence, and flourishing.
After I changed my own life through fitness, I decided to commit my life to helping others do the same. When you train with me, you’ll experience a dramatic physical transformation. But more importantly, you will begin to activate the best parts of you that have remained suppressed, latent, and unrealized. In a word, you will become more of yourself. And you will begin to flourish like you never have before.
